Comprehensive Eye and Vision Assessment
A comprehensive eye and vision examination involves more than just determining a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. Our optometrists will examine how well your eyes work together and assess the health of your eyes inside and out. Systemic health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and multiple sclerosis can be detected in a routine examination of the eye health. Many eye conditions, such as glaucoma, retinal tear, macular degeneration and others, can be become advanced and irreversible before symptoms become evident. Prompt diagnosis by an optometrist or ophthalmologist can significantly reduce vision loss from these conditions.
Eye strain and eye coordination issues can be present even when wearing glasses or contact lenses that give 20/20 clarity.
Our comprehensive eye and vision examination will include the following:
- A history about your eye and general health including any medications you take and any allergies.
- Investigation of eye coordination and visual perception including how your eyes perceive depth or color.
- How well you see with and without glasses and your glasses or contact lens prescription.
- Ocular health assessment including photos of the back of your eye, the pressure inside your eye, and peripheral vision. It’s possible that you may need eye drops to dilate your pupil for a better view of the retina inside your eye.
